This paper deals with a central challenge facing owners of digital assets: how to ensure that such assets perform as intended through their lifetimes, in the context of continual updates, and while connected to other digital assets and systems.
This challenge calls on all the experience of assurance providers like DNV — and more, in the form of new digital tools. Assurance itself is digitalizing, and as we show, that opens new possibilities for the discipline, beyond assuring the performance of digital assets.
This paper introduces a Framework for the Assurance of Digital Assets (ADA), and lays the basis for forthcoming, more detailed papers from DNV on digital assurance; the value it creates, the role of simulation technologies, risk-based digital assurance perspectives, and the use of digital assurance to advance sustainability.
