Independent verification of battery performance over time for your application through state-of-the-art modelling and testing

If you are developing, financing or operating an energy storage project, you need to know how the battery will perform over time. Will it degrade in line with the capacity warranty? How does the specific application affect degradation? Is replacement or a maintenance plan the best option over the project lifetime? Reliable independent engineering analysis for battery degradation lets you answer questions like these with confidence.

Identifying degrading factors
Our battery degradation service is applicable for a project’s design and/or operational phases. It covers everything from estimating battery degradation based on usage profiles and intended applications, to evaluating compliance with manufacturer warranties.

For the degradation assessment, DNV utilizes our state-of-the-art battery degradation modelling methodology (Battery AI) derived from independent cell testing data. We can estimate degradation for existing battery storage assets by evaluating operational data to identify key degrading factors like temperature, c-rate, throughput and SOC variation. We can also estimate degradation for new battery storage assets by modelling battery operation for intended applications and calculating the consequent key degrading factors.

Unparalleled expertise
DNV has been testing batteries for more than a decade and has independent cell testing data to support battery degradation modelling and analysis. We log more than two million channel hours per year at our BEST Test Center in Rochester, New York, which we operate for the New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology (NY-BEST) Consortium.
